DNS not resolving notes server name and dhcp not releasing leases

Hi there,

My office is running Redhat 8's dns and dhcp server, client workstation are win98/2k/xp. Some how the Lotus Notes client sometime is unable to locate the Lotus Notes server and time out. I tried ping with -a in all windows version and the respond sometime is timeout and sometime took about 10 sec to give me the first respond. Why is it so, everything is house in the same network in the same office and intranet.

Second thing is that the dhcp does not release the lease even after a machine is not turn for a week. There was a time that I need to delete off the lease file because I could not get any IP on any machine.

Please advise. Thanks

Regards
Daniel

about dhcp, make sure your dhcp.conf is correct.
There is some time setting in it, like how much time to keep the ip bail running. Windoze 2000 is dumb and never send a release msg to the server to announce he is going down and so, that the ip can be used again. So if you release time is too long, the server will not release it before a lot of time. Xp probably act as the same.

About DNS... what you mean by "note" client and "note" server? is this hostname or a special service? In any case, can you post your DNS config file zone?
