dns lookup failed

I am having a dns lookup problem with one of my two RH9 servers.
They are on the same subnet. One can resolve the dns name successfully.
the other get timeout error in nslookup. ON THE FAILED SERVER i CAN PING the dns server, traceroute to it without any problem. There is no firewall setting, I did iptables -L and showed no rules. the DNS is on a different subnet though.
Can anyone help me here ?
thanks in advanced.

I will try to put the dns server in the /etc/hosts.
But the dns IP is in the /etc/resolve.conf for sure. And the two server have the same settings for DNS.
Any other ideas ?
