dns local caching -

I am using the IPBX asterisk with chan_sip. It has a known flaw, which is when WAN access goes down, the sip stack goes crazy because it fails to resolve domain names, and all IP communication goes down.

The workaround is to use a DNS cache on the server. That works to the extent of the TTL. Ie, while the TTL is greater than 0, the dns cache will serve the local value, but when it reaches 0, it fails and the same issue arises.

Is there a way to configure the local dns cache so that it delivers a default static value when the resolution fails ?

Thanks for the help

The man page for nsswitch describes how to set this up. Try DNS first, if that fails you could use either host files or a local NIS server configured to return the values that you want.
