DNS Forwarding -- Please help

I want to set up a dns server to resolve all my systems on my local network with my local dns server, and if a request for an outside address is requested, I want to forward this request to my ISP's DNS servers.

My DNS server is working fine internally, but since the resolve.conf will only point to one DNS server at a time, I can't resolve any outside addresses.

In the named.conf file, I'm not sure how to enter a "forward to this dns server if the address fails to resolve internally" statement.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

You can actually get it so that you local DNS can answer both things for localdomain and for any remote sites as well. However for what you want you need to add the lines

forward ( first );
forwarders { ip_addr ; };

This will cause bind to speak to your ISP first and it they fail then do a lookup yourself. IF this isn't quite what you want you many want to look at updating the hints root zone file
