Angry (DNS change) + (samba) = locked out

Here is the situation. I have been running a few red hat 9 machines joined to a windows 2000 domain controller. The 2k box has been running my internal and external DNS and has been crashing more than I would like lately and does not come up clean after any sort of power outage. I wanted to get my external DNS off of the same server as my internal DNS for additional security and stability. I had noticed in the past that if my windows server was down I can not log into one of my boxes with any accounts local or non. I will refer to the machine by the hostname tron.

I changed my DNS on Tron to accept requests for several domain names for different web sites I have running. when I did this I also added a long list of DNS forwarder addresses and was going to use it as the primary dns for my squid server and for the local machine (tron). I removed the forwarder entry that went to my windows DNS and removed the windows DNS server from my resolve.conf file on tron. long story short tron no longer looks at the windows DNS. I am currently locked out of the box. I am for the moment just going to boot to knopix mount the drive and change the resolve.conf file back to looking at the windows box.

My Question: What is causing this, my samba settings or am I missing an entry for my host / resolve.conf file to allow me to log on locally?

I have 127.0.0.1 in both files resolving the localhost and hostname.

Is tron the windows domain controller, or the linux RH9 box? Im confused.. because you said that you had to edit the resolf.conf on tron, but tron is running windows right?
