DNS and Bind Slackware 9

Hey there all ok here is my deal, I own the domain name codefreak.net it was registered with netwisp company, and I recently purchased a dedicated server.

Now I have codefreak.net pointing to my servers ip address using sagonets name server (the compnay i got the dedicated server with) however it's a huge pain in the ass for my to add subdomains etc.. because i have to email the compnay with my requests and that take a day or to for them to get back to me and add the subdomains.

I assuem that i can get around this by running my own name servers but i have no clue as to how to configure bind and no clue what i should make codefreak.net point to etc.. can someone out there please help me out?

There are several examples that can be found on the Internet for DNS configurations. http://www.irandata.com/linux/dnsserver.htm is one example to get you started. You should first set up the DNS server and test it by pointing a different computer to this as the DNS server and make sure that it works as you want it to. Slackware should have a default /etc/named.conf and a basic caching example in /var/named. You'll have to add a file for your domain.

Then you need to go to netwisp, (presumung they are hosting your DNS) or whoever you registered the domain with, and change the primary DNS server to your IP address. You should also ask your current DNS hoster if they will be a secondary DNS to you, in case your server goes down.

Its very nice to help setup and to have for reference later.. when something stops working right.
