Display bandwidth in site

My hosting comapny uses a control panel called HSPhere where I can control my server from.
One of the features it has is that it displays the amount of bandwidth used and how much I have left.

What I am trying to do is get the bandwidth usage on the my site so that other people are aware of how much is left.
I dont know how it works but maybe there is a file on my server somewhere that will have the current bandwidth usage and then I can set up some php to read that file or display the contents.

But so far I dont know if this file will even exist. Would I maybe need to ask my server company access to a particular file or something like that so the php can grab it.

I am aware of the bandwith moniters out there but I thought it would be simpler just to read in a file rather than installing somthing that may or may not do the job, also if I do install a bandwidth moniter it would be starting off at 0 i presume but I have already used x amount.

So any Ideas are welcome

Oh I am on Fedora Core 3

Thanks

Shrug, you could always check out freshmeat.net or sourceforge.

There are a couple of things you could do off the top of my head. Install vnstat to call the information that you need, as it keeps track of bandwidth usage. Or create your own solution by looking in some /proc file that will have network information. I think you could also do netstat -i or some other form of netstat...but basically you'd be rolling your own solution.
