Display and Flush DNS cache

Hello,
I have a computer assignment and I need the right command in linux. I need to display recent DNS records and clear them whenever I want. In windows "ipconfig /displaydns" and "ipconfig /flushdns" commands are used respectively. Are there any commands in linux which are equivalent to these ones? or in Linux isn't there such an option? Can "ifconfig" solve this problem? If yes what should be the exact options and command line?

rndc dumpdb will write the cache to the named_dump.db

rndc flush with flush the cache

of course you need a caching only name server running on your box

Hi,
This old thread doesn't answers a very important questions: On linux is there a dns cache on the client/resolver like in windows? Or the client queries the name server for every query it needs resolved?

If yes how can it be displayed?

I mean for boxes which don't run a dns server.

to flush the DNS I use "/etc/init.d/nscd restart"

And what if nscd is not installed on your system.?

I also need to know what the Linux equivalent of ipconfig /displaydns is.

as I know there is no equivalent for displaying client dns cache on linux. There is no dns cache on the client side.
If I am wrong please correct me.

Is this the DNS cache for al the clients in the network that are using the DNS server?
