Welcome to LQ.

Can you tell us what you are trying to boot - eg:
1) ltsp workstation
2) Install
3) something else

What distro(s) are you using?

If you can't find the docs for the motherboard...good luck.

...who know WHAT it might be looking for?

I used to have a mobo that needed a proprietary disk for recover in case it messed up. I guarded that disk like it were gold because the mfgr. wasn't around anymore.

That mobo is history now...and I finally found another reason for that bright 720K yellow disk.

Now it holds my partition backup.

Can you clarify EXACTLY what distro you are trying to use. You have already mentioned 3:
RedHat 9
Fedora
RedHat Enterprise

From what I can make you it is the same as an RH9 setup. Try following the server setup instructions here:
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...stall-net.html
