i also found a kingston util called qstart.exe but it must be run from dos. if i boot from a dos floppy and configure the card, will the changes still be in effect when i boot in linux again?

In my case it worked just fine, boot with dos diskette, run the setup program from diskette, disable PnP , set the IRQ and DMA to your liking, close and reboot. I had a very simple Realtek 8019 ISA NIC.
