Unhappy dialup for a backup network connection (gnome-ppp)

I need a backup internet network connection. I am looking at a dialup using
gnome-ppp. My ISP will provide dialup as a backup to the ADSL. I can connect the
modem to the ISP but I am having trouble with the PPP side of the connection, if
someone has a better program than gnome-ppp I will try it. The ISP doesn't have
any support for linux system using gnome, only support for windows. Any help setup
gnome-ppp would be helpfull.
