check whether the device actually exists in that directory

try linking it to /dev/ttyS3 or 4 and connect

ln -s /dev/ttyS3 /dev/modem would create a link

find out which port your modem is connected to.that would make my stuff easier

and search somewhere else. i am out of ideas

Hey,

I've used dial-up on Red Hat 8 and 9 and it's worked great.
From some of the previous postings, it looked like your modem is recognized.
Once you figure out what /dev/ttyS# refers to your modem, then just use the following programs to setup and use your dialup connection:

use "neat" to set it up
and use "neat-control" to use

you will need the usual stuff for setup: a number to dial, username, password, i think you'll need a couple dns server addresses ...

hope that works

try using the following program, which is pretty much a setup wizard for your internet connections:

internet-druid

It should come with your redhat distribution

U can setup ur internet configuration via System Tools--->Internet Configuration Wizard. Afte it's properly configured ( device type, ISP, ur account, etc ), you have to SAVE it and please read the message from dialog box and then quit. Restart ur computer and go back, to connect to the internet u can use modem lights... to add modem lights ...bring ur cursor on the panel and right click......choose "Add to Panel--->Internet----->Modem lights. Once u already have it on the panel....right click again on the modem lights and then.......choose preference......click the Advanced tab.....change the " LCK....Modem " with " LCK...ttyS0 " ( assuming that ur modem is connect thru serial port..........and then close it. U can now simply click the button ( left hand side of the modem lights ) and the dialog box will appear, asking if u want to connect ? click yes... click that button again to disconnect.

Hope it helps !!!
