dial-up connection dies in suse 11.0
Hi,
I am trying to get a US Robotics 56K Fax modem to work on Suse 11.0 but I keep getting the following message: - ppp daemon died unexpectedly. error status = 19. Now I know that error code 19 has to do with failed authentication: Here is the debug file for kppp: ATZ OK ATM1L1 OK ATDT0860008484 CONNECT 36000/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS ...then it dies. and the wvdial.conf file [Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/modem Baud = 57600 Init1 = ATZ Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 Init3 = Area Code = Phone = 0 Username = *********** Password = *********** Ask Password = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Stupid Mode = 1 Compuserve = 0 Force Address = Idle Seconds = 300 DialMessage1 = DialMessage2 = ISDN = 0 Auto DNS = 1 I am normally on a LAN with a FritzBox FonATA router which I disabled with ifconfig eth0 down in root before attempting to dial the USR modem. Could it be a permissions problem? Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. TIA |

You might try adding these lines to the ppp options file:
Code:
cp-echo-interval 30 |
I tried your suggestion but now get exit status = 2
You have posted an invalid option to pppd |
Quote:
Code:
lcp-echo-interval 30 |
I've tried but it still won't work.
I'm posting the complete Kinternet log if tha will help. pppd[0]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded. pppd[0]: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 pppd[0]: --> Initializing modem. pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATZ pppd[0]: ATZ pppd[0]: OK pppd[0]: --> Sending: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 pppd[0]: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 pppd[0]: OK pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATM1 pppd[0]: ATM1 pppd[0]: OK pppd[0]: --> Modem initialized. pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATDT0860008484 pppd[0]: --> Waiting for carrier. pppd[0]: ATDT0860008484 pppd[0]: CONNECT 40000/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS pppd[0]: --> Carrier detected.
