Dial Out? Smpppd Issues!
Alright I have been trying to get my lucent modem to work for a few days now I found a patch at Suse's website and I installed that but now when im in the Yast configuration and its configuring the modem it freezes when it gets to "Configuring smpppd" I dunno why it does this I have searched everywhere for a possible fix but no luck ... Also how do I configure it to dial out, instead of dialing in? I posted this same thread a few days ago in another forum and got nothing so someone please help!! Thanks.!

internal modem? ouch!!!!
That's a bad start.
If you have installed the driver,
just open a console and type .
kppp is a windoz-like tool

Hi,
you shouldn't have any problems with the Creative Modem Blaster you've been looking at - configuring a 'proper' hardware modem is a cinch - just hook it up and use YaST to configure your connection. It's precisely what I did when I used dialup.
However, do have a go with KPPP as suggested - you might get things going and save yourself some money! Use YaST to install KPPP, then run KPPP as explained (I think you'll actually find it in your K menu somewhere). You can configure your connection from within KPPP - it's fairly intuitive..
Incidentally, SuSE's SMPPPD (SuSE Meta PPP daemon) is their own app, and one really nice feature is the ability to control the connection from another machine on, say, your home network. I used it extensively and it was really neat.
Have fun and enjoy Linux!
