Question DHCPINFORM every few hours!

Hi there,

dhcpd: isc-dhcpd-V3.0.1
clients: Windows XP Pro

I have the default lease time set to 7 days. However, I'm seeing DHCPINFORM messages for each client every few hours. I would only expect to see one after 3.5 days.

Does anyone know why this is?

Many thanks,
Steve

INFORMs aren't just to keep tabs on the address, are you using a web proxy authentication discovery protocol on your network? Also if there's other DHCP options that weren't set correctly you'll see INFORMs fly around from time to time trying to figure out the extra details. Why are you concerned?

Question

Thanks Elomis,

I'm concerned because there are only 7 (Windows) workstations connected to the Linux server, and syslog is simply full of INFORMS and ACKS... see below. I've also listed my dhcpd.conf (some stuff masked for security)...

Code:
authoritative;
option domain-name      "*masked.foo.bar*";
ddns-update-style       interim;
ignore client-updates;

default-lease-time      604800; # 7 days
max-lease-time          604800; # 7 days

subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {

#       range 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.10;                 # 9 addresses in pool

        option routers 192.168.0.1; # Default Gateway
        option domain-name-servers  192.168.0.1;
        option broadcast-address    192.168.0.255;
        option subnet-mask          255.255.255.0;
        option time-servers         192.168.0.199;

        host master     { hardware ethernet *masked*; fixed-address 192.168.0.200; }
