dhcpclient can't find interface

Hello,
I am trying to make my cable modem work. So I loaded the usbnet module on my slackware 10, and now have an ethernet interface for it.
still I can't get an ip from it, though it works with the default configuration issued with mandrake for instance.
when I run dhclient, it says it can't find any broadcasting interface.

and that's what I get if I run
dhclient eth1

what can be done here?

Is the MAC starting 00:90:64 correct for your modem? Is it made by Thompson Broadcast Systems?

I am puzzled that eth1 appears instead of eth0. Did you get any report from installing usbnet? Check /var/log/messages

What happens if you try
dhclient eth0

This article: http://www.linux-usb.org/usbnet/

suggests you might expect a device usb0 to show up. Try unplugging and plugging in the USB connector and listing
tail /var/log/messages

If you have hotplug working your system should notice.

Try dhclient usb0 etc.

thanx for the reply.

The mac is correct and indeed that's the Thomson modem (rca).

I have an ethernet card seperately (not connected currently to anything) , but for the modem I decided to use the usb connection. Now, inorder to do this I load the usbnet modules which allows you to deem the usb connection as if it was another ethernet card.

As I see now, the problem is only with the configuration of dhclient, because
