Question dhcpcd - problem setting hostname

Hi all,

I am trying to set the hostname of a machine that has just picked up an IP address from a DHCP server, with 'dhcpcd':

# dhcpcd -t 10 -h "myhost011" eth0

But.. The problem is: it’s setting the hostname on some IPs (myhost011.aus.domain.com) only and not on others (otherwise it utilizes the hostname DHCP provides, for e.g. dhcphost1.aus.domain.com). Whats going on?

Another interesting thing I noticed is when I use Knoppix LiveCD, knoppix does not have a problem at all, it seems to be 100% successful. Knoppix uses 'pump' to get a IP and set the hostname.

Maybe I should also use 'pump'?

try using a fixed address in the DHCP Server configuration

host XXXX (put any hostname you want here)
{
hardware ethernet xx:xx:xx; (MAC Address)
fixed-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;(address given to that client)
}

I hope i specified that right. Please anybody correct me.

I dont have access to the DHCP server configuration. Why does Knoppix's 'pump' work on all occassions and dhcpcd not?
