DHCP Renewal Problem

Hi im running 2 linux boxes and many windows pcs.

One linux box is a gateway to the internet and a DHCP server.
the linux box gives out ips ok to all the machines except the linux boxs ip isnt renewed when it runs out knocking it off the network.

running ifdown eth0 and ifup ... etc dont change anything.

also

im not fully sure how you renew an ip manually on linux should ifdown ifup do it ?

I dont think ifdown and ifup up renews ip for dhcp, I think the dhcp client has to be run in order to do so.

I use adsl, so running rrpppoe makes things right, but ifup and ifdown do not run dhcp( it doenst broadcast the MAC searching for a new IP, as it already has one).
