DHCP problems

ive had some problem with the internet which can be fixed on wednesday.
the problem is that i cant obtain the dynamic ip on linux so i want to set the ip to be permanent. how can i set linux to use a permanent ip(or is it called static) instead of dynamic?

ive checked these files:
networks
all DHCP related files
hosts

Do i have to go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/?

My windows retrieve the files via DHCP but it doesn't use the dynamic ip's it just uses the static

what can i do? should i just modify a file in linux to use the static ip, the undernetmask and the standardgateway i use in windows?

please help a

Just boot into windows, and get your addresses, and then reboot into Linux and run 'netconfig' from the command promt.

How is it using DHCP, and also using static settings at the same time?

What kind of internet connection do you have? Cable, DSL, do you have a router?

Do you have 2 computers, or does it dual boot?
