How can i use the DHCP client to get value for some particular option from the DHCP server (dhcpd) like the SIP server IP address. This is a new option added in DHCP options (by RFC 3361) and its option-number is 120.
Well i am grateful for yr reply but i need the solution for Linux 7.2
I have read that there are certain option numbers allocated for private use. And i have also read that DHCPd server in Linux also supports the use of options by simply entering value in the dhcpd.conf file in the format
option option-120 ae:11:11:11;
where 120 is the option number and rest is the information for that option to be given to client.
Now i want to know how can i tell my client in Linux to get the value of this option from the server.
Whatever your client gets should be in the /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-eth0.info file. I don't think you can force the server to tell you anything as the client. It will depend what is in the server's dhcpd.conf file. But look at the man for dhcpcd, there may be some option you can set.
