DHCP leases running out without being renewed?

I have a desktop machine configured to share it's internet connection with my laptop using firestarter. All used to work well until I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 .
The interface connected to the internet is eth0. The interface serving the local network is eth1. DHCP is enabled on eth1.
Every few minutes it seems the leases run out and I have to manually request a new ip (dhclient ethX).
eth1 is assigned a new ip from the localhost and eth0 from the local network. If the requests are not made in the order eth1, eth0 the machine connected to eth1 is unable to access the network connected eth0.

Obviously, it gets quite frustrating losing the connection frequently and having to manually request a new lease.

Thanks all.

Did you look at the dhclient.conf file?
Did you look at the dhclient.leases file?
$ less /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.leases
$ less /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
That might give you a place to start.
