dhcp error

Hey,

I've been trying to get a machine of mine to work on the internet/lan for a while now, it doesn't seem to work, so any help would be a appreciated!

The computer I'm trying to get to work is connected to a hub device that gives out addresses (DHCP) but inbetween the hub and the comuter is a switch - that allows all the other computers to connect at a central point. The other computers on the lan go through this same setup exactly- using Win XP Pro SP2 - and do not have any problems getting addresses or coneecting to the proxy server for the net. What makes it worse is that this computer doesn't have any problems under XP too, and when I had mandrake 9.2 on about 6 months ago it worked well.

Under linux, the system itself finds the card there, but when i use drakconf to set up the connections it doesnt work at all. Ive tried statically assigning an adress, that worked for about 2 seconds and then it failed, and any attempt at a DHCP setup just has never worked.

For a while when mandrake started up it would hang on the eth0 line, but now it doesn't do that anymore...

The specs of the machine are 350MMX intel pentium 2
Compaq NC3121 Fast Ethernet (NIC) plugged into PCI 1

tell me what you think..
