DHCP Client Problem

ok, i have tried to set up a router for my home network
my ISP uses DHCP, so i use MASQUERADING (everything is w/ fine here)
i have the original distribution kernel.. no modificafion here
eth0 uses dhcp
eth1 is 192.168.0.254
my problem is this:
on a live slax CD everything works fine... eth0 get's the config from the server
but on redhat it doesn't work(my redhat comes with dhclient installed)
so dhclient doesn't work for me, (but it works if i configure the ip manualy, and other OS also works with dhcp, for example when i use the slax live cd (wich uses DHCPCD) everything works fine )
so i guess dhclient doesn;t work ( if i type dhclient it says 'no response' or something and when i boot it says 'fail' when it tries to determine ip for eth0 )

so i have installed dhcpcd on that machine
and it works .. when i type dhcpcd it gets the IP .... it works from comand line
but if i set the interface in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to start at boot and to use DHCP it doesn't work

when i boot it sais "Determining IP address for eth0 [fail]"

i think even if i installed dhcpcd, the system still uses the old dhclient wich came preinstalled....

how can i make the system use dhcpcd (not dhclient ) when it brings up the interface (at boot time) ????

Well if dhcpcd is a startup script and your using redhat......

Code:
chkconfig --list dhcpcd
chkconfig dhcpcd on

i think it did not correctly install as a service...
chkconfig returns: error reading information on service dhcpcd: No such file or directory
and i cannot see it in the list either.. so it must be something wrong with the installation.. i'll try some other versions..

and one more thing.. how can i make a service start in the background when it boots... for example getting dhcp information for an interface takes some time, detecting usb devices and some other tasks takes some time(a fiew seconds)... well.. on knoppix i have seen something like this when it booted:

Determining IP Address for interface eth0 [Backgrounding]
Starting bla bla..

it just went on with booting, instead of waiting for the ip to be assigned
so i wonder if i can do this on my machine.. so it starts faster.

just asking.. :P
