DHCP and Reverse DNS

I go to a university, and connect via DHCP. I've noticed while in computer labs etc when I connect to irc, the IP resolves just fine. But in my dorm, my ip never reverses. However, my ip stays the same.

Is the problem on my side, or more likely the schools? I'm wondering if it's possible for me to setup reverse dns.

My first guess would be that your dorm is in private(RFC 1918) address space and NATed somewhere on campus, and the computer lab has public IPs.

Edit:

You will not be able to setup rDNS on anything unless you have access the the NS servers of the university. Calling their help desk would be the best bet if they have something misconfigured.
