Dhcp


Hi friends,
can anyone tell me how to configure DHCPD Server and Client.. and what are all the requirements for that... and what does this file tells.."/etc/log.d/conf/services/dhcpd.conf".
i didnt get much in HOWTO's .. please help me ..

Hi billymayday i got some basic idea about dhcp.. but how to write a piece of code to start the dhcp.... can u please gimme an example...

I don't quite follow what you mean - do you mean starting the daemon?

yes, to start the dhcp daemon on request .... say
there is a network and a new user wants to connect to internet, so when he plugs his PC then an IP will be dynamically alloted to him right ??? now, how to achieve this in the practical scenario ???

You should be able to start the daemon with

service dhcpd start

to make it start automatically when you reboot, type

chkconfig dhcpd on

In addition to this you will need to set up the config file as per the howto. As a rule, daemons just run in the background doing stuff - in this case listening for dhcp client to request an IP address.

Then tell the client machines to look at your server for leases.
