Details of Port53


Hello
Can anyone tell me for what purpose port 53 is meant for.What are services running in it.The set up is for a valid DNS having Red Hat Linux 6.2 as OS.What will happen if port 53 is attacked.WHat will happen if this port is closed.

it's used for DNS enquiries, BIND and all that stuff. if it's blocked a DNS server will logically just fall over useles...
