Dest Unreachable with PPP

I am having two different problems with my ppp conection.

First, when I connect to my isp, I can not reach anything.

pie:/home/cs# pon stowetel
pie:/home/cs# ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:86 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:86 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:12044 (11.7 KiB) TX bytes:12044 (11.7 KiB)

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:206.113.40.189 P-t-P:192.9.202.253 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

TX packets:5 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
RX bytes:190 (190.0 b) TX bytes:136 (136.0 b)

pie:/home/cs# ping google.com
PING google.com (216.239.57.99) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.9.202.253 icmp_seq=1 Dest Unreachable, Bad Code: 9
From 192.9.202.253 icmp_seq=2 Dest Unreachable, Bad Code: 9
From 192.9.202.253 icmp_seq=3 Dest Unreachable, Bad Code: 9

--- google.com ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 2001ms

How can I fix this, any ideas?

Also, when I have my eth0 connection up, DNS will not resolve. My guess is that the computer is trying to access the internet over eth0 but it only connects to a LAN.

Check your route table to see what your default gateway is set as...

route -n should do it... the -n indicates that is should return numeric output and not attempt to resolve the hostnames (optional).

Hope this helps...

lemme know...

So, I don't really know what I'm doing with route, but it would seem as if all my trafic is being sent through ppp0

Try running a traceroute to Google:

traceroute -n 216.239.39.99

If you can, copy and paste the results of that into here.

Also...out of curiousity... Can you actually ping your gateway? (192.9.202.253)
