Desktop networked fine but laptop is not finding desktop
I am having a problem with getting my network to work properly with linux. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and am using Samba (both desktop and laptop are using Ubutnu 8.04). I have finely been able to get my desktop to access my laptop (don't know how) and I have transfered files from my desktop to the laptop but when I go to network-windows network-workgroups (on laptop) there is nothing that shows up. My config file is identical on both computers. My desktop shows up under just the network and also shows up under the Window network>workgroups (on the desktop) but my latop has nothing.
I am wanting to eventually switch all my computers to linux but I think that I still want to use Samba because I have my desktop as a duel boot with window XP pro (just for my video capture card and just to have, to help other friends and family on xp).
PS If someone can help me with getting my winfast 2000 xp to work or an inexpensive good tv card that works with Ubuntu.
It sounds like there may be a firewall problem, you might try to restart samba and see if it works. On my OpenSUSE Laptop, I had that problem once, and I restarted samba and all has worked great ever since.
