Question Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf

Hi all,

We have a 'production' RHEL6 server, which is displaying the following error upon boot:

"
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/
"

Googling the issue makes it sound like an easy fix, i.e.: move /etc/modprobe.conf to something like /etc/modprobe.d/nicbond.conf

However, if I do this and reboot the server, none of the network interfaces come up (not a nice situation to be in when it sits in a data centre 2 hours drive away!). Nothing in the logs appears to be of much help. Truth be told, I tried this fix a few months back but I have decided to re-investigate, hopefully with the help of this forum.

The contents of my /etc/modprobe.conf are:

"
alias bond0 bonding
options bond0 miimon=100 mode=1
"

Any suggestions why my networking may have broken when attempting the above fix? Did I overlook something stupid?

Thank you!

Elliot

What happens if you have an empty modprobe.conf and have your alias and options lines in the ifcfg config files?
On systems I've worked on, those lines were in the relevant ifcfg-bondX files.

Oh, so are you saying I can just add the contents of my /etc/modprobe.conf file to my /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0 file? I wouldn't have expected them to be compatible.

I believe my original setup was based on the final post here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...teaming-194857.

Cheers.

Elliot
