Dell 2724 Switch Running Slowly

I know that this is an older switch but it works (or did).

I had a switch take a dive yesterday. I hastily configured another one and this time I installed it with a public IP in the public network range so that I can shut a port down if I feel there is a server being attacked. It is working very slowly. The switch is also throwing HTML on my screen - I can see the code for the switch. Additionally all ports say that they are set for 1000Mbps. but I only set them for 100. The switch is now showing auto-negotiation sometimes disabled, sometimes not. I plugged into the Link port (port 1) and instantly had throughput that while at the data center was great. Very slow. 603377 collisions and climbing. Previously I had plugged into port 24 with no external access. It was still set to 192.168.2.1. I don't know why I would suddenly have collisions on a network that has been running for 10 years. But I'm not a hardware guy.

When we installed Dell Force 10 switches here a couple of years back we found many issues trying to run the switch ports at 100MB even though they supposedly allowed that. We ended up setting them all to allow auto-negotiate 1000MB (GigE) then changed our servers to match.

I solved it just by restarting the firewall. Who'd have thought?

Thank you for your reply.
