delayed webpage loading

ive been using linux for a few weeks now, first fedora core but didnt like it, now ubuntu but got lots of problems. but one thing ive noticed on both fedora and ubuntu is that the internet is really slow connecting, download speeds are fine, but when you klik on a link it seems to stall for about 5 seconds then loads the page fine, is this normal for linux?its almost instantanious on windows.

ps:
im connected on an adsl line thru a router with a built-in firewall wud dat have anything to do wit it?

pps:
i read on another post a guy wit a similer prob but dat was wit gnome, im using KDE

It might be that dns queries take a while. Do you have a local dns caching server?
Have a look at /etc/resolv.conf
Pay attention to the nameserver line(s)
If you have
Code:
nameserver 127.0.0.1
You are using a dns caching nameserver (faster)
If not, every time you load a page, there are several dns queries to find the site's IP.
Windows uses automatic caching.
P.S. Using gnome or kde shouldn't change anything.

You must be root to edit this file.
NOTE: DO NOT CHANGE THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE SET UP A DNS SERVER!
for instructions, see http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO-3.html
Also, if the file starts with a line saying "this file vas automatically generated, do not edit", make the modifications to the nameserver section(s) in the files in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/ instead, then run /sbin/resolvconf (all this as root)
