I am running debian 3.1, and I just ordered a lazer printer. The sales rep just called and said he would be out here in half an hour to set up my lazer printer, and he also told me that I needed an FTP server set up to be able to scan files to computer since I am running linux. The printer is being networked, so I can't use xsane to scan from it. Can someone tell me what to use to set up an ftp server that is writable with debian? I just want a quick install and I can secure it later.
Ok, that done, now what do I need to do to configure it or start it? I have never used ftp before. I do run apache web server on this computer though, and I would like to set this ftp up so that when I scan something is stores it in /var/www/scan so that I can then download what I scanned from any computer.
Hey, I just noticed your link to get information on this program, I guess I'll go read that and try to figure it out for myself.
Thanks For the Help!!
Basically, you'll just have to change the document root from ~ to /var/www/scan and make sure the directory has some acceptable permissions for read write. You'll probably have to change the group and add users to the appropriate group. Or maybe setup that directory as the anonymous root directory...
Too bad I didn't get here sooner. I'd have suggested vsftpd. On Debian it installs completely set up for anonymous users, and when the installation is done, it's running. Only takes about 3 minutes ... You may still have time.
