Help, I am a newbie on my second Ethernet card while trying to solve this problem. when installing the card it is seen by Red Hat and added to the system. When restarting linux the startup screen notes that the RTL8139 card does not seem to be present. I,m using a D-link wireless router and our second computer which is on the wireless connection works great at accessing the DSL and using it. (It's using Windows XP) The linux computer accessed the Internet for the first evening, when my son set it up, BUT not sense. I unloaded the first card thinking it was defective but get the same problems with the second card so now feel it's a setting or something ???
Help Help
What module does the card use 8139too? Try lsmod and see if the module is loaded. If not try modprobe 8139too and see if you get any errors. If module is loaded try ifconfig and post the results, also route and post the results of that too.
/bin/bash
Thanks for your response. When I open the terminal I have to sign in as "root"
On opening terminal, it's first line is:
[user@localhost user]
When I type in "ismod" it replies: bash: ismod: command not found
When I type "modprobe 8139too" it's reply is: bash: modprobe: command
not found
What's the next step, I'm probably not entering something as part of the "command"
I've been reading parts of a RedHat 6.2 book trying to get a handle on this but at this point it's all Greek
Thanks for your help
/bin/bash
Thanks for your attempt to get me going, I was looking at the other threads, one which referenced the Red Hat 9 customization guide "www.red hat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/custom-guide/s1-network-conf........" With it I reinstalled my Ethernet card, configured it, and ************* I'm on line
Thanks again
