CUPS With Linux

I have a HP Deskjet 820Cxi connected to my Redhat 7.3 system, running CUPS. I want another Linux machine to be able to print to this printer. I have already added that Linux machine's IP to my /etc/hosts.lpd file. The problem lies in how to input the data into CUPS on the client-side so that it will know where the remote printer is. I was able to get this to work under lpd, but ever since I changed to CUPS, then back to lpd, I can no longer get it to work under lpd. So now I'm trying to get it to work under CUPs instead.

For your information, on a haunch, I connected the printer to the other Linux machine and printing works, so I think perhaps CUPS did something funny to my printer configuration files.

Try sharing the printer using samba, and then print to the shared printer using samba on the client side.
