Cups, network printer and dummy driver
Hi,
I am sharing a Samsung ML1640 printer via CUPS, and there are Windows clients who access it via http (although I can config smb/cifs if that changes anything). When they "install network printer" on Windows, OS asks them to select a driver. This particular driver is not included in Windows by default, and the Samsung's packages are full of bloatware. Linux (both local and network) printing works perfectly well. Is there a way to share the same printer under an alias, that has a default driver on Windows? Ideally if the server served the driver itself, or the driver was included in Windows XP by default. Any clues? |
Welcome to LinuxQuestions
There are several methods but samba might be the easiest. On windows setup use any Postscript driver, I tend to use HPs but it does not matter. Configure the print command in the share for the actual printer which will use the cups filter and backend. http://lprng.sourceforge.net/LPRng-R...tipart/smb.htm |
