cups, mime.types and

Hi,

I've got cups running on a basic config so I can print from my various machines. I have a recurring problem which happens almost every time I turn my printer off and back on. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R300 which gets turned on when printing is needed and off when finished.

The problem is that cups (or something) is re-writing the mime.types file and re-commenting out the #application/octet-stream line at the bottom every time the printer gets turned off and I don't know why.

Result = I constantly need to re-UNcomment the line, save the file and restart cups.

I've looked closely at cups.conf and there is nothing obvious I can see that would stop this from happening.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? What am I doing wrong? Anyone have any advice?

There are a lot of answers in http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=51436, some complicated and some not. One easy solution is to copy mime.types and mime.convs to another file in the same directory e.g. pinter.types and printer.convs. After that rename mime.types and mime.convs to something else (I'm not sure if this is necessary). Your problems are solved.
