CUPS and a windows networked printer
 

I am trying to print, using CUPS to a printer connected to a windows PC on my network. Printer is shared, all is well, except that when I print a test page, I get one page of info and many blank pages. If I send a job to the printer, I get all plank pages and I am required to force the job to cancel at the printer to get it to stop.

The printer is an HP LaserJet 5Si, for which CUPS has a driver.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Install the Windows UNIX print service;

Ok, I am a little confused. The link you posted seems to be a setting in windows to allow printing to a Linux printserver.

This article explains how to install Print Services for UNIX and configure a Line Printer Remote (LPR) printer.

If your network has both Windows 2000 Server print servers as well as UNIX print servers, computers running Windows XP Professional may need to be able to print to either environment. To accomplish this goal you need to configure Print Services for UNIX as well as Microsoft Windows printing.

However, I have a Linux PC, trying to print through a windows network...

Could you please provide a little more detail?

I haven't messed too much with trying to access shared printers in Linux, but I can say that Samba and smbclient are some things you need to look at to accomplish this.
