Unable to get 3 pc's running windows 8.x and one machine running Ubuntu.

I use a simple netgear ethernet hub. and none can access the others pc's./ It used to work in older version of Ubuntu but now it does not want to know. The net works fine for all m/c.

What does "ethernet hub" mean? Is it a router or a switch? Is networking working at all? Do your machines have IP addresses? Is there a DHCP server running somewhere or are they static? What do you mean by "access", are you looking for file/printer sharing? SSH? Some other service? From Windows to Windows, Windows to Linux, Linux to Windows, or some combination?
