What do you mean? Domain for what, for an application? First you register one with something like the above link, then you give it the name you have registered...
For example apache. Apache wants a domain name. To give it a valid one, you would have to register it first, then supply the registered domain name.
You are talking about a file server, therefore you will need Samba.
The Samba RPMs are on your RH9 CDs.
You can setup Samba as a Workgroup or a Windows Domain.
To configure Samba, you can use GUI tools like SWAT or WebMin.
Or you can edit the smb.conf file.
