create ethernet LAN

i have a linux (red hat) machine, a windows (2000) machine, and a CISCO layer 2 switch that i want to connect together to form a test network. i've never made any networks before, could someone send me some links to tutorials or explain how to configure/setup everything correctly and ping the resulting network to make sure it works.

Google is your friend, but I'm in a good mood so here's a link to get you started:

You'll need to install samba if you want to talk to windows PC's.

Networking is easy with linux machines - Just jump in & get started!

FWIW I spent 9 hours at my brother's last weekend: 10mins to configure his linux box with samba, 8Hrs 50Min to set up WinXP.
