CPU usage in a network

Hi all,

I have two pcs connected through wifi in p2p mode...I would like to see the cpu usage of the network. Could anyone help me with tools I may use for seeing cpu usage in this network.

Thanks.

Max

Networks don't HAVE CPU's...computers and routers do. Are you wanting to see the CPU usage of the PC or of the router/switches they're connected to? In either case, you can use SNMP to see basics. Read the man pages for snmpwalk, and it should tell you how to look at things. A basic command would be
Code:
snmpwalk -v1 -c public system.*
Again, the man pages can explain more. This presumes that you have the SNMP daemon running on your PC's/switches. You don't say what version/distro of Linux is on your PC's, so not much we can help with there.

In any networking there is some amount of cpu time spent on things like encryption, and checksum's of packets. There is also time spent in other parts of the transaction.

Do you really mean speed or throughput instead?
