Correct etc files?

Hi,
I am not sure my etc files in Mandrake 9.2 are correct for my network. I use
webmin.

Under DNS client I have:

Hostname -> hercules( Fake name)
DNS servers -> IP address of ISP DNS server
Resolution Order -> Hosts, DNS, NIS+, NIS
Search Domains -> isp_provider.net (smtp mail is "mail.isp_provider.net")

Under Host Addresses(Hosts etc file):
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.2 hercules (IP of machine on LAN side of router)

Are these settings correct? I question this since my smtp e-mail(small e-mails)
retrieval/send from evolution takes about 7-10secs to complete.
This is very slow compared to my windows XP machine.

Any other files I should check for correctness?

Thanks,

7-10 secs to download e-mail is slow.... how far we've come.

i remember trying to watch a NASA picture come down on 14.4 -- i think it took over 30 minutes...

slow e-mail

Hi,

The e-mails I am refering to are plain text e-mails with no attachements. These
are small e-mails having only a few lines of text.

Actually, I am more worried that my etc files are possibly miss-configured.
I assume this when comparing the Mandrake e-mail speed to my XP machine( which
is much faster).

You are right, we have come a long way.

well, my underlying point is that i don't see a 7-10 sec lag as cause for worry. there are so many other possibilities to cause that lag.
