Converting static IP-address to dynamic IP-address
I installed Fedora Core 5 on my laptop. I have done this with an FTP-server on one of my other computers. To connect to the FTP-server I have used a static IP-address. However the installation is finished now and I wanted to change the static IP-address to a dynamic IP-address. I used system-config-network GUI tool, but I don't get a dynamic IP-address. I verified the settings with one of my other computers and they are absolutely equal. Am I missing something that makes linux prevent from getting a dynamic IP-address?

Do you have dhcp client installed?

Well, i get the same problem on my redhat 9 box. When I want to configure my NIC with dhcp, I use dhclient ethx (where x is the number of the network interface, default is 0)

I already figured out my mistake... It is a pretty stupid one. I forgaot that my router checks the MAC-address. Had to add that one first and then it worked.

Thank you guys, for willing to help me.
