convert from inetd.conf to xinetd.conf
These are a few lines from an old inetd.conf:

# modem daemon
modem stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/modemd /dev/ttyS1

I want to convert this to xinetd.conf. I have this so far:

service modemd
        socket_type    = stream
        protocol        = tcp
        wait            = no
        user            = modemd
        server          = /usr/sbin/modemd

I still need to add "/usr/sbin/tcpd" and "/dev/ttyS1" paramaters. This is where I am stuck.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Why move to xinetd ??

linuxturtle 11-11-2003 03:18 AM

Im using redhat 9.0. There is no inetd only xinetd.

/bin/bash 11-11-2003 11:24 AM

The main reason to switch is that xinetd is more secure.

An Unofficial Xinetd Tutorial

/usr/sbin/ < /etc/inetd.conf > /tmp/xinetd.conf

/bin/bash 11-11-2003 11:35 AM

PS. There is also a script. I don't know the difference between the two.

Does some one have an answer or no?

/bin/bash 11-11-2003 09:43 PM

I thought I answered your question.

/usr/sbin/ < /etc/inetd.conf > /tmp/xinetd.conf
