Constant disconnects of ssh, irc, aim

My ssh connection, aim connection, and irc connections are constantly dropping at unpredictable intervals (generally between 5 and 15 minutes). I get a "connection reset by peer" message in IRC (using Xchat). gAIM simply gives me a "__________ has been disconnected" message.

I'm running Fedora. I updated to the latest kernel version; didn't fix the problem. I have a cable modem, which is routed through a Linksys router. This problem did not occur on Redhat 7.3, with the same router and settings. It did not occur during the first few weeks I ran Fedora, either; again with the same settings. Rebooting hasn't helped, either.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Try some things

Check a few things:

1) Do other computers on your network experience this? If so is it at the same time.

2) See if a lower level connection will stay alive during the glitch. i.e. netcat <server> <port> to some server that will not time out (such as netcat -l <someport> on a remote server). Also try this with others on your lan.

3) Check system logs.

4) Try using a static IP instead of DHCP if possible.
