Connection setup problems (need refresh for each new domain name, used to work fine)

Hi,
I appreciate any help.
I installed Mandrake 10 (yes I'm a newbie) and everything worked fine. I proceeded to install many useless packages to check them out. No internet. I remove the squid package, as it's giving me errors on shutdown. I remove shorewall. I set up New connection (cable, DHCP, auto; usually flawless connection) from my login with temporary root priviledges. Everything works fine until I reboot. Same problem each time, like the computer forgets my settings. I log on to root and this time it stays, except I need to refresh the browser once each time I hit a new domain (like linuxquestions.org).

It gives me this in konqueror:
Quote:
An error occurred while loading (the URL)
Connection to host whatever.com is broken
And this in Mozilla:
Quote:
Alert: The document contains no data.
So I hit refresh and it works. This happens all the time, not just when I launch the browser.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

P.S. I'm on security level "highest", I have a hub in between the cable modem and the PC, and I may be missing some elementary package removed when I installed other packages

clear your cache, history, etc. and check if the problem persists.

Set the compare page to "Everytime I view the page" ... presume you are using Mozilla

problems persists

Thanks for the input. I did what you suggested, but stil no success.
Also, in the Opera browser, the error it gives me is "network socket blocking (URL)"

Yeah, Possibly a DNS issue. I don't know how I'd fix that though. Under windows(dual boot) it works ok.
Is there a way to know the date at which a rpm was installed? I tried sorting the installed packages by date but it lists them all without any details. Or if I could just revert to a snapshot of my system, that would be nice.
Thanks ppuru.
