Connection Dropped by IMAP Server

The default port for IMAP is 143, right? When I do:
telnet localhost 143
The connection is refused
There is some error in the IMAP configuration and I am unable to figure it out. Please help...

Thanks in Advance

All that really tells us is that you can't connect to port 143. What IMAP server (and distro) are you running? What is you current config (for example, secure IMAP listens on port 993)? How do you start it up?

I am using Courier Imap on Kubuntu. I have Imap listening to port 127.0.0.1.143,IP.143

Should I only have the port as 143??

I also have Courier-Imap-SSL, which is listening on port 993.

When I do "telnet localhost 143", It seems to connect, but nothing happens after that. It doesnt do anything when I type (for example:hello)

I have postfix, imap and squirrelmail..

Thanks in advance.
