connecting xp pro and win2k to red hat linux 9 pdc server

hello, I am having some problem connecting my xp pro and win2k on my red hat linux 9 pdc server, I was able to connect my win98 withought any problems anymore, anyway when I try to connect to the pdc linux server on my xp pro, it gives me access denied message, but I am positive that I am using the correct username and password, is there anything else missing?, this is my first time to use linux both as a workstation and a server, I have been up all week configuring, appreciate all the help.

check the logs in /var/log/samba.
if it is indicating authentication, then your users aren't set correctly in samba.
