connecting to inbuilt hso 3g mobile broadband device

hello,
basically i would like to do this the command line way, so it can be automated for login, suspend and wakeup.

what i have so far:
the device: Option Globetrotter HSUPA GTM380
it's like a built-in dongle, inside an about 5years old acer aspire one netbook.
ip link registers it as hso0, it has 4 entries in /dev: ttyHS0-3

I can connect to it with sakis3g and hsoconnect.
both apps are, to my understanding, not under active development anymore. also they don't allow for automatic reconnection after suspend.
I can also connect with networkmanager, but the whole gnome3 thing is a bit too much for this small & weak netbook. anyway it, too, had problems with reconnecting after suspend.

I am struggling hard to find a utility that will allow me to automate connecting, preferably with systemd and/or netctl since i'm on archlinux.
It could require some intermediate scripting, too.

From what I can see, netctl/pppd is able to communicate (chatscripts?) with the device, but it always ends with "Connection failed".

hsoconnect has debug output, maybe with the aquired data i could construct something along these lines?
Here is an examplary complete debug output from a succesful connection with hsoconnect (i obfuscated 2 numbers/strings and 4 ip addresses).

any ideas?
thanks.

solved at last.

the hso kernel module source package contains a shell script to connect (hso_connect.sh).
the README says "far from failsafe" - i see no problems, but i will not mark this thread solved just yet.

the script is easy to hack.
in its core it only uses chat, ifconfig and route.

here's the hso module source (v1.9.):

^ that script works well enough.

however, all methods mentioned above use something called "slow aquisition" - it means it takes about 30s to get an internet connection up.

i tried again with network-manager, and this time i succeeded. it's faster, and also integration with sleep & hibernate is better. i've documented the process here.
