did you install samba with redhat 9 because it comes with it........................
set up file sharing on the windows drive you want to access. if samba is up and running, check the services for nfs and netfs. dont know if you need both running but i do
go to your /mnt directory and create the mount point for your drive. say like, if you want to share the C drive on windows do
mkdir /mnt/C
after its created, you can mount it with
mount /mnt/C
see what happens and post back. if it goes right back to a prompt then type
df
that will tell you whats mounted.

[br@localhost br]$ whereis samba

if yours is similar youre good to go. if not, go to the add remove applications menu to install it. its on the discs if you still have them or can be downloaded.

If you have a /etc/samba/smb.conf file
What does this tell you:
chkconfig --list samba (might be just smb)
Look at what process are running, should have smbd and nmbd.
A little confused here. Can or can't you get the local linux web page? This is not related to samba or with sharing files. Are you trying on the PC running linux? Try http://localhost. If nothing then is apache running?

oh.. sorry about the unspecific explanation.
i mean http://test
test indicates another computer's name that has windows OS. so when i type it in the mozilla browser in linux, it says "Can't find page", even though it is connected to the internet and i can visit other sites that start with "www"... it's kind of weird to me for now...
thanks..
